The 285HX spec sheet mirrors the desktop 285K, how much AI survives the move to a laptop?

The 285HX spec sheet could pass for a desktop 285K with 24 cores, 24 threads and 36MB of L3, and its NPU is quoted around 36 TOPS. Short INT8 runs genuinely land close to desktop results. Endurance is another story: the laptop power envelope throttles sustained loads, and the longer you push, the further the paper advantage shrinks. The NPU ends up the most dependable part here precisely because it was designed for low power and does not fight the chassis for cooling.

It fits people who need desktop-scale thread counts on the road and work in short bursts. Anyone expecting the NPU figure to hold up as an always-on local-model engine will be disappointed. The strength of this chip is being ready to compute at a moment's notice, not grinding for hours straight, so check your tolerance for sustained throttling before paying for the desktop-grade sheet.
