How should the core and thread counts of Core i9 12900TE be understood, and do more cores help in games?

Answer

The 12900TE is the embedded version of the 12900T — same 16 cores and 24 threads (8P+8E), 35W low-power design — shipping through industrial, AIO, and OEM channels. You basically won't see it in DIY retail.

It's nearly identical to the 12900T: fine for daily use, multitasking, and gaming, while sustained all-core work hits the power cap. For most people the only real difference is where you find it — expect what that platform is built for.
