FAQ

How much can Core i7 12800HX's performance change between power modes, and when should performance mode be used?

Answer

Performance mode needs a real test on your own machine: switch modes and watch CPU Package Power and GPU power in HWiNFO over a 10-minute sustained load. If performance mode holds the CPU above ~55W while balanced clearly stays lower, the mode is doing real work; if both are about the same, the chassis cooling and power delivery have hit their ceiling. This matters most on high-power parts like the 16-core 12800HX.

Use balanced mode for office work to save battery and noise; switch to performance mode when plugged in for gaming or rendering.
