For a first-wave Meteor Lake part, will the Ultra 5 135H's 33 TOPS hit a local-AI ceiling today?

The 135H is the first-wave Meteor Lake laptop platform: 14 cores/18 threads, 4.6GHz boost and 18MB of L3, with AI Boost rated near 33 TOPS. Thirty-three TOPS still rides the top of the mainstream line: most thin U-series parts sit at 24, so this buys a clear step up — meeting enhancement and live transcription plus small local models, as long as 7B-class speed isn't the bar.

Whether to buy it has nothing to do with being newest: as a solid H-class workhorse the AI is comfortably sufficient and the 14 cores leave headroom for daily muscle. The real gaps sit elsewhere — memory tops out at 96GB, so long contexts won't fit, and an aging platform won't see much more tuning. Treat it as a reliable commuter rather than a sports car and the 33 TOPS wears well.
