GeeCoolThe 12900K is the 12th-gen flagship: 16 cores/24 threads at 5.2GHz, 30MB of L3, VNNI INT8 and DDR5 to 128GB; today its price sits in the mid-range, and local quantized inference, embedding and preprocessing performance still serves mainstream desktop users for years.
What the era has pulled away: the 128GB memory ceiling and one generation of memory-controller bandwidth. Used boards and DDR5 deals make 12th-gen builds cheap today, so the total cost of a capable local-AI tower falls a lot lower than the flagship-era sticker suggests. It fits budget-first desktop users spending their savings on RAM and GPU; for 192GB-plus capacity or newer-platform features, the 14th gen or AM5 beckons. The VNNI INT8 foundation hasn't aged.
