GeeCoolThe 10920X is the 12-core/24-thread X-series part at 4.6GHz with quad-channel DDR4 and AVX-512; its comeback stage is narrow: parallel data preprocessing, batch embedding and AVX-512 quantized inference, where quad-channel bandwidth still gives old HEDT some work to do.
But 'comeback' means graduating from e-waste to a usable data-plane box, not returning to the mainstream — single-core, efficiency and ISA completeness lose across the board to modern platforms. There are also software stacks tuned to AVX-512 that make this old part surprisingly useful for encoding and preprocessing tasks that new thin clients cannot do at all. Only X299 holders filling four channels should continue; on a new build it has no place in the cart.
