Question 1

What motherboard suits Core i7 13790F, and how should power delivery, memory, and ports be balanced?

Accepted Answer

The 13790F is LGA1700, with DDR4 or DDR5 boards — one or the other. Confirm compatibility first, then plan ports around the GPU and storage; that beats picking a board by CPU tier. Without overclocking, a B760 is enough, and the DDR4 version saves real money; go Z790 only for expansion or tuning. On 13th gen, update the BIOS microcode first.

Question 2

How should a GPU be paired with Core i7 13790F for 1080p, 1440p, and 4K gaming?

Accepted Answer

The Core i7 13790F is a 16-core, 24-thread part (8 performance + 8 efficiency) with no iGPU. With a sensible GPU pairing, the 16 cores are rarely the first bottleneck in everyday games. High-refresh 1080p still depends on the processor and game type; at 1440p/4K the GPU takes over. It's fine for multiplayer and high-refresh play, but if you chase top frame rates, spend on the GPU instead. The F suffix requires a discrete card.

Question 3

What cooler does Core i7 13790F need, and how do gaming and sustained all-core loads differ?

Accepted Answer

A dual-tower air cooler is very stable for gaming on the 13790F; regular all-core compiling or rendering is safer with a 240mm AIO or top dual tower. Rated TDP is not full-load draw, so run 15 minutes all-core after building and watch clocks; clear drops mean stronger cooling. Testing beats spec sheets.

Question 4

How many cores and threads does Core i7 13790F have, and is it suitable for gaming and productivity?

Accepted Answer

The 13790F is a channel-only i7 with 16 cores and 24 threads, essentially a 13700F. If you compile, encode, or render regularly, this is a well-matched spec. For gaming alone, core count isn't the deciding factor — single-core speed and the GPU are. And on 13th gen, update the BIOS microcode; Intel shipped a fix for a stability issue affecting these chips.

Question 5

The China-exclusive big-cache 16-core 13790F — anything special for AI?

Accepted Answer

The 13790F is the China-exclusive 16-core/24-thread part at 5.2GHz with 33MB of L3 (3MB over the 13700F's 30MB), VNNI INT8 and no iGPU. For AI, the cache's landing point: a bit more hit room for embedding vocabularies and hot small-model weights, squeezing a hair of latency off single-stream inference — mostly below the threshold of perception. Its real value is the price anchor: exclusive models usually carry channel pricing, so take it when the same config is cheaper than the 13700F. Don't pay extra for 3MB of cache — AI data work runs on memory and cores; cache is garnish, not a deciding factor.
