GeeCoolPerformance mode matters a lot on HX chips: on the same power adapter, quiet mode may allow only half the power and drop performance a whole tier. When to use it: sustained work — rendering, compiling, demanding AAA games. For office and browsing, balanced mode is plenty, quieter, and gentler on battery.
How much difference? No universal answer — every brand and model differs. Measure it yourself: plugged in, performance mode, run your usual task, and log clocks, power, temperature, and fan noise. Then you'll know.
