How should the core and thread counts of Ryzen 7 7700X3D be understood, and do more cores help in games?

Per the specs on this page, the 7700X3D is an 8-core, 16-thread AM5 X3D part. It's not common in retail, so confirm it's an official SKU before discussing performance.

If it's real, expect standard 8-core X3D behavior: strong gaming, ordinary productivity. Verify the source and board support list — obscure SKUs trip people up most.
