How should the core and thread counts of Ryzen 5 8600G be understood, and do more cores help in games?

  6 cores, 12 threads, 4.3GHz base / 5.0GHz boost, 65W, 16MB L3, Phoenix, AM5, launched Q1 2024, with a Radeon 760M iGPU.

Office, media, and light gaming without a discrete GPU — that's the 8600G's whole value. Two rules for iGPU gaming: memory must run dual-channel or frames take a big hit, and AAA titles at 1080p low land around 30–40 fps, so esports and lighter games are its comfort zone.
